Gregory Morrison
Retired Nonprofit Association Executive and Healthcare staff member
Cross of Hope Church and School (COH)
Sense of Call: The call to serve arrived early in my life. Since college I have answered that call to serve. First in healthcare providing direct patient care in radiology then as a non-profit healthcare association executive for the world’s largest association of radiologic professionals till my retirement in 2022. It was 44 years of service providing for patients and the betterment of healthcare in the US. In retirement I continue to feel the call to mission and service to God by using the knowledge gained over those years to continue to assist both my local congregation and the greater church body.
Skills/Experiences: 15 years of direct patient care experience as an imaging specialist in radiology. Then 29 years as a nationally certified association executive where over time I served the American Society of Radiologic Technologists in the positions of VP of Education, VP of Professional Practice, Chief Knowledge Officer, Chief Operating Officer and finally as Deputy CEO. During that time, I oversaw all part of the organization including the functions of Education/Continuing Education, Member Services, Affiliate Relations, Event Planning, Human Resources, Government Relations, Finance and Facility Management.
Service Activities: As a volunteer I have served the COH congregation for ten years as their church director of finance and business operations where I oversaw the daily finance operations, the IT infrastructure and the organizations human resource function. I am currently serving treasurer for COH. This is my second time serving on the COH council. I also oversee the organizations weekly streaming service. Outside of the church activities I also provide gratis photographic and video production services to other nonprofits.

Sense of God's Call: I have been blessed to serve as a member of the Rocky Mountain Synod Council for one term (since 2022), and I am hopeful that I might be able to continue my service to the church in this way. Serving a congregation in Durango has its perks, for sure; but it is an amazingly isolated place. Importantly, then, serving on the Synod Council has provided me and the Four Corners region with a deep sense of connectedness to the wider church. I'm grateful for the ways in which God has led me and the Synod Council over the last few years in discernment and action for the good of the church and the world, and I feel as though God is calling me to continue in service in this way.
Skills/Experiences: I have served on the Synod Council for one term at this point (since 2022), and as a member of the Executive Committee of the Synod Council since 2024. That said, I feel as though it took a long time before I felt comfortable and knowledgeable in this role. So, I am eager and hopeful to continue, since it feels like I really just started. During my time on the RMS Council so far, I feel that I have been able to offer thoughts on Synod issues from a rural, non-Front-Range perspective. I approach matters that come before the Council with curiosity and creativity. And I take this role, its responsibilities, and its time commitment seriously. I regularly attend the meetings and gladly offer time above and beyond that for service to the Synod.
Service Activities: I have served in numerous other capacities at the Synod level: RMS Consultation Committee member (2020-current) RMS Congregational Ministries Board member & chairperson (2012-2020) RMS Global Mission Team member & chairperson (2010-2014) RMS Voting Member to ELCA Churchwide Assembly (2009, 2016) Other Board or Team involvement: Navajo Evangelical Lutheran Mission Board of Directors (2020-2021) Lutheran Advocacy Ministry Policy Committee (2009-2013) NM Conference of Churches Bishop Deputy (2009-2013) UNM LCM Board of Directors (2008-2013) BSA Troop 538 Chartered Organization Representative (2013-current)
